GameEx 5.23 Released
Posted by [vEX] @ 10:06 AM CET | Comments: 0 | Arcade
|
| • OK, the new working of show desktop was not working for everyone so I've reverted back an tried a new approach.
• There's a new display setting to hide the desktop. With this setting on when in full screen mode GameEx will hide the desktop ICONS, and set the Wallpaper to tiled black. This is a much better approach, and assuming you have no other apps open, the transition to apps and emulators that need the show desktop setting should be normally seamless.
• I also modified the wait before keys setting to be used even if no keys are specified, as HideOS.exe is not closed until this timer has passed.
• Therefore to load Visual Pinball seamlessly set this setting to about 8000 (8 seconds)
• Fixed: text and layout now resizes correctly when going from windowed to full screen.
• Fixed: Snap and background videos now show and reload when changing Windowed/Full screen.
• Just to clear up things about .net framework 2.0. GameEx does not use version 2.0 (yet). You should install 1.1.
• Microsoft seem to be creating a bit of a dll hell situation with the different versions. If you have version 1.0 installed, Windows Update will give you the option to download 2.0 only. Where GameEx runs on 1.1 with support for 1.0
• .net 2.0 if installed broke GameEx previously even though GameEx will only use 1.0 or 1.1. The update was to fix this issue and make GameEx work if you happen to download it from Windows Update or use it for other apps. Installing .net framework 2.0 will not improve or affect anything in GameEx in any way (at the moment)
• Everyone finds this very confusing, and MS does not seem to attempt to make this better understood. They often don't tell you at face value even if your using a beta version, or provide good versioning information for Beta versions, but still encourage you to download them.
• I do plan on starting to use Visual Studio 2005, and I will be upgrading GameEx to use Visual Studio 2005 and .net framework 2.0 in the future once I have some reserve cash to buy the development suite, and I see some benefit in upgrading.

GameEx 5.22 Released

Not sure if it's 5.22 or 5.21, the site lists is as 5.22 for download but has no news post about it.
| GameEx 5.21
• Should really fix exception on exit now. This was caused by some unmanaged threads still running when GameEx closed.
• Background Ambience now resumes after launching a game. It also now restarts when its reached the end.
• The showdesktop setting no longer shows the desktop it just tells the HideOS app that runs in the background not to be above all windows. So for all your emulators and apps that need showdesktop you should just see a black screen when transitioning to and from GameEx as when not using show desktop. If this makea some of your apps/emus just have a black screen please report on the forum, I've tested with Visual Pinball and Mad Dog Mcree. Although it may need some timing tweaking.
• Awesome news for Visual Pinball :)
GameEx 5.20 - Bug Fixes.
• Should fix occasional exception when exiting.
• Now works if .net framework 2.0 installed (note you still need .net framework 1.1 installed)
• No more cannot load playvideodll.dll errors at startup.
• Now works on Windows Server 2003 (Vista? Anyone wanna try?)
• Fixed download of Arcade Ambiance on fresh installs.

MEKA WIP 2005-11-20 Released
Posted by [vEX] @ 11:10 PM CET | Comments: 0 | SMS|GG
|
Changelog is pretty big, check the WIP site for all the information. Below is a part of the post.
| Here we are! Everything that has been done since 0.71, now available in a fresh build. The primary target of 0.72 was to let down old paletted video modes and switch to 16/32 bits rendering, which is now done (except a few things such as blitter not all converted yet). Added support for VGM 1.10 (affecting SG-1000/SC-3000/SF-7000 and Colecovision VGM dumps), rewrote theming system, tweaks and more tweaks. And again, I added more stuff for beloved hackers who are digging into SMS history: a full featured tile-viewer, conditionnal breakpoint, VDP line based breakpoint, a register SET command, command history, you name it, etc.

The GP2X - The New Pretender to the Homebrew and Emulation Crown
Posted by Wraggster @ 04:49 PM CET | Comments: 2 | GP2X
|
The GP32 also know as the Gamepark 32 was and is an emulation fans dream console, the list of emulators and homebrew is outstanding, well moving on a few months ago i was told of the successor to the GP32 called the GP2X and this console has these features (Thanks to GP2X UK)
| To sum up the GP2X:
It can play games. It can play your Movies. It can play your music. It can view photos. It can read Ebooks. It runs on just 2 AA batteries - And it can do all this in the palm of your hand or on your TV screen.
Yes that's right, this handheld can connect to the TV, console style. Watch your DivX movies on the TV. Play emulated classics on the TV. Try big screen Quake. Or just play them all on the GP2X's large 320*240 backlit screen. You get the best of both worlds.
It runs the free Linux operating system. This means a whole world of Games, Utilities and Emulators are at your disposal. Quake, Doom, SNES, Megadrive, MAME, Media players and Applications to name just a few.
It's powerful - Two 200mhz CPU's with 64meg of RAM, custom graphics hardware and decoding chips. Takes SD cards and has 64M of NAND memory. Plenty to play with. One of the most powerful and advanced handhelds today.
That means it can play movies without any re-encoding. Just put them onto an SD card. Any size. Any resolution. No messing about. The GP2X scaling chip will resize to fit the screen. No other handheld can do that.
|
The GP2X has been available in for a week now and what a week, we have seen ports of Quake, Quake2, Hexen and also Snes, NeoGeoCD, Commodore 64 and even an Atari 800 emulator and thats just whats been released :)
The GP2X scene is seeing movement on a daily basis and while there may still be some bugs to iron out the console is gathering momentum.
The sites to watch out for are GP32Xtreme, GP32 Spain, Emuholic, GP2X News and the GP2X File Archive .
The GP2X can only be brought from smaller but more dependable shops at the moment and they are GP2X Shop, GP32Z and also GP2X UK.
Will this new console have an impact on the Emulation Scene, ill say a hell yes :) (and no pesky firmware updates to kill homebrew like the PSP)

RuMSX 0.33 Released
Posted by [vEX] @ 03:05 PM CET | Comments: 0 | MSX
|
| Changes from RuMSX V0.32 to V0.33
• RUMSXEMU.ZIP (*updated*) has been changed and must be downloaded.
• RUMSXUNI.ZIP (*updated*) contains a trial-version of the RuMSX V0.33 unicode build (MSXW.EXE), which supports world-wide character sets in the single file. This file is NOT part of the InstallShield-version.
• Since V0.29 RuMSX supports a "My MSX" folder. This feature is disabled by default and has to be enabled by separate tools!
• Many problems since V0.32 fixed: conceptual bugs in the interrupt handling are now solved! "Zanac", "Zanac 3", "Super Laydock Last Attack 2" and "F1 Spirit 3D Special" are working again (at least as good as before).
• The ROM-type "Generic MegaROM (with SCC, KONAMI 8 KByte)" was defined incorrectly. Bank 1 (&H4000-5FFF) is now fixed, otherwise it would not work on MSX2+ and TurboR.
• Also: no Konami-ROM is of this type: detection corrected!
• One display frame has been skipped always, even if 0-Skip has been configured
• Screen 8 had wrong colors in HiRes-mode

Glide64 Wonder Plus Released
Posted by [vEX] @ 02:57 PM CET | Comments: 4 | Nintendo 64
|
| What's new:
• Fixed many bugs in combiners (mostly for Voodoo 4/5).
• Fixed bug in large textures support, which caused texture distortion in few games, e.g. Yoshi's Story.
• Fixed texrects with zero height.
• Hack, which I used to enable videos in Resident Evil 2, is proved to be useful for some other games to show previously hidden graphics. For example, you now can see race map before race start in LEGO Racers.
• Hardware frame buffer emulation is tweaked to support all effects in Paper Mario. Now this game works almost flawless on Voodoo 4/5. It is recommended to use Mupen for this game with "Get frame buffer info" enabled to get correct background in the main menu (this feature is finally works too).
This release also contains updated version of Hacktarux's glide3x wrapper, which fixes fog problems with latest ATI drivers. Updated versions of special ini files from Federelli and olivieryuyu are included too.

EmuZWin 2.7 Release 2.2 Released

[-] Auto-completion in the Assembler editor fixed.
[-] RST instruction in the Disassembler fixed.
[-] Loading memory block (Load and Compare dialog) fixed.
[-] Unpressing RShift fixed (when LShift and RShift were mapped to some different Spectrum keys, pressing and releasing it together got in result that key correspondent to RShift left "pressed").
[-] In some cases when Pentagon was selected after resetting Spectrum, ROM image from S128 was loaded, fixed.

EmuZWin 2.7 Release 2.1 Released
Posted by [vEX] @ 01:52 PM CET | Comments: 1 | ZX-Spectrum
|
| [+] An option added "Caps on Arrow Keys", which allows to disable this behavior which is on by default. (Useful for games with a Cursor keys keyboard, which do not like Caps Lock therefore).
[-] Pressing Alt+'0'..Alt+'9' crashed the emulator if it was not in NetPlay mode. Fixed.
[-] In the Debugger, breakpoints on Port Write fixed (just were not implemented, but setting such breakpoint was crashing the emulator). Turning on/off separate breakpoint in the Breakpoints Dialog while running could crash the emulator, fixed too.
[+] Very special effect added, Equispaced Frames. It is intended for Anti-Slowdown War (sometimes game speed depends a lot of amount of objects to draw on screen, and in that case game become slower for a time). This effect allows to eliminate this behavior: all frames become equidistant, and in some cases game is running smoother. But sometimes speed become too fast, so do not forget to select another custom speed. And, for some games this mode should not be on while it is loading or showing menus, so to switch the mode quickly, key combination Alt+Q is reserved for turning this effect on/off.

bsnes 0.014 Released
Posted by [vEX] @ 01:49 PM CET | Comments: 0 | SNES
|
| This version adds speed regulation, greatly improves PPU rendering, and increases speed by ~30% over the previous version.
Changelog:
• Rewrote offset-per-tile mode emulation, should be correct now. Fixes Chrono Trigger, Contra III, Tetris Attack, etc.
• Fixed a bug with HDMA occuring during interrupts. Fixes Tales of Phantasia souond test screen
• Updated compiler to Visual Studio 2005, and enabled profile guided optimizations
• Added conditional compilation of debugging functions (faster without them)
• Added conditional compilation of core classes as pointers (allowing polymorphism) or objects (allowing inlining). The latter results in a speed increase
• Small fixes to BG and OAM rendering routines
• Corrected sprite tile bounds wrapping
• Corrected sprite rendering in hires video modes
• Rewrote color add/sub routines, should be correct now. Fixes Illusion of Gaia menu, etc.
• Optimized video blitting routines, will temporarilly break mixed video mode screenshots
• Prevented selecting menu options via return key from being recognized as keypresses by the emulator
• Added system speed regulation (60hz/NTSC or 50hz/PAL)! Many thanks to kode54, GIGO, and Richard Bannister for their assistance
I disabled the debugger and polymorphism, and enabled profile guided optimizations for this build, to maximize speed. The debugger and polymorphism can be re-enabled via uncommenting the respective #defines in src/base.h and recompiling, or bsnes v0.013 can be used. I may start releasing two separate builds in the future... not sure yet.

=========================
1) Cycle based sprite emulation.
2) "Emu-fuxx0r v2" by Plush2K compatibility. The "Quick speed" toggle must be switched off to pass the "Emu-fuxx0r v2" test. This is because the "Quick speed" toggle disables the SID emulation.

• Faster a bit Disk Browser indication.
[-] "Jump to block" and "Stop if 48" commands in TZX load fixed.
• More exact implementation of command "STOP TAPE" in TZX.

A new spotlight has arrived here at the Emulation 64, this time it's all about Urchin! Urchin is the author behind the c64psp emulator, a port of Christian Bauer's Frodo C64 emulator for the Sony PlayStation Portable.
A snap from the interview:
| Q : Could you give us some information regarding the current state of your projects?
A : I have some ideas for a couple of utilities and also a side project for c64psp. I don't want to give too much away at the moment, but it will be very cool if it works out.
