PicoDriveDS 0.1.6 Released

• Added Max Media Dock FAT support (thanks chishm/Bonic)
• Added EZ4 FAT support (thanks cory1492/Rudolph)
• Reduced memory usage, 3MB ROMs should work again
• Added EXPERIMENTAL support for using the additional RAM on SuperCard SD carts to load ROMs larger than 3MB. This comes with the standard warning that this feature may cause file corruption on your SD card. The SCSD may also keep the Genesis ROM in GBA ROM space after a reboot, causing PicoDriveDS to see it as an appended ROM and crash on startup - to fix this issue simply power down, take the SCSD out, and wait a few seconds.

PS1P Alpha 1 - Playstation Emulator for the PSP Released

Tonight Finally is the release time of PS1P the PlayStation Emulator for the PSP. Anonymous Coder has now agreed to release the first Alpha of his Playstation Emulator for the PSP.

This release was to be a Single Game release but AC contacted me today and changed his mind so thats great for you all, heres what he emailed me:

The wait is worth it. I'm releasing a version that will run anything. ISO, BIN, Z and ZNX.

The rest you know. scph1001.bin and images in the __SCE__ps1p directory.

This version has some compatibility problems which I plan to fix soon, for example the FF7 intro movie doesn't run. You can play the game though, just get past the intro using a standard PC emulator (PCSX, ePSXe, ...) and copy over the memory card file ( mcd001.mcr or mcd002.mcr).

Use L+R+ up/down to tweak the CPU timing.

I think L2 and R2 aren't working at the moment too.

--A.C.

P.S.: to make things clear. This emulator has nothing to do with PCSX, psx4all or any other emulator already released. The only thing I did was use for the game selection screen, the same font code that psx4all uses--it's from some GP2X demo/app.

Ootake 0.82 Released

- "Fast Seek" was added to "Speed" menu. When a fast CD drive is used, the time of the CD seek is shortened. - When CD drive not fast is used, the noise might mix with a built-in sound source at the CD seek. In that case, leave the check removed (default).
- "Start FastSeek" was added to "Setting"->"CD Drive" menu.
- In event scene of "Ys IV", the problem that the screen and the voice shifted occasionally was solved. - When CD drive not fast is used, it is likely to shift still a little. In that case, use virtual CD drive software.
- In event scene of "Ys IV", the problem being uncommonly drawn to the noise of one line was solved.
- In "Nectaris", the problem that the scroll of the map has slowed was solved. I think the operation timing of other software has approached a real machine, too.
- In "Wonder Momo", the problem that the borderline of the division scroll flickered occasionally was solved.
- When "Open bram Folder" of "File" menu is executed, the "bram file (buckup memory RAM file)" is updated. - The update of "bram file" is done at "The state is saved" or "Ootake is ended", too.
- When the "HES file (sound file of PC Engine)" is opened, it is automatically set to the "BigSoundBuffer"(The sound buffer is enlarged. And, the frame rate is lowered.) mode.
- Additionally, a detailed part has been improved and corrected.

NesterDS 0.3 Released

- Vastly improved compatibility by fixing several mapper problems.
- Got rid of alternate-line rendering.
- Lots of speed-ups (better DTCM management, changed screen writes to occur during actual scanline routines, lots of other stuff).
- Converted code-base to pure C, moved to devkitARM r19b.

There were lots of changes that I've forgotten about in here, this was sitting around on my hard drive half-finished for months. I was also working on converting expensive PPU routines to ARM, but that was also unfinished. The included source has some of the ARM routines that I did finish.

PCSX2 0.9.2 R2 Release!

PCSX2 0.9.2 a PlayStation 2 emulator, just got a quick upgrade to sort some bugs out, heres whats on the official site:

This fixes an assortment of issues found briefly after 0.9.2's original launch. It is strongly advised that people get this build of 0.9.2 over the initial release.
Compatibility regression with Vampire Night resolved.
Final Fantasy X now works for most regions.
     Fixes Crash when using config>patches
Frame Limiting is now more accurate.
Improved zeroGS, Disgaea 2 menus are now solid.
P.E.Op.S SPU2 updated to include threaded mode (usefull for video recording).
Screen Saver / Power Saving now disabled when running PCSX2.
Just to cure our collective headaches "warnings about default.xml" being blank, or "patches not found", are mearly information, they do not in any way effect PCSX2's compatibility or performance.

We are releasing via torrent and http, please seed for as long as possible with the torrents, we recommend uTorrent as a client!

PCSX2 0.9.2 Release!

PCSX2 0.9.2 a PlayStation 2 emulator is here! Here is what the official site had to say:

This release brings several important changes to PCSX2, enhancing compatibility and adding several new aspects to the emulator.

ADMA has been added to PCSX2, most (if not all) game videos will playback audio, many games now have their music and speech effects.
Counter fixes stopping games hitting long pause syndrome, or crashing.
Enhanced MTGS / DC stability, great for those with Dual Core CPUs.
IPU improvements, more game videos will now run.
VIF fixes, allowing for many games to run or look better.
VUrec fixes, improving ingame graphics when under VU recompilation

Also included with this release is the new Patch Browser and Patch Finder, the patch browser, allows you to search memory with the tools and functions you would be used to with a cheat searcher.

The Patch Browser will allow you to enable and disable parts of the patch during gameplay, eg; enabling Infinite Lives etc!

HOWEVER!! - These features are not completed yet, enumerator's and other features are not present, and the patch browser lacks functionality! You can still use the patch finder, and an example XML file with notes is included with this release (in the root dir of PCSX2), and the new format XML files can be used by PCSX2!

PCSX2 0.9.2 also comes with a new zeroGS plugin, which increases graphical support for several games and fixes some of the bugs found in the previous version(s).

We're going to save ourselves some hassle next! We're aware many people want to play Final Fantasy X on PCSX2, as you maybe aware the game is now fully playable, however we would like to make two very important notes:

PEOPS CDVD plugin must be used!
MTGS can cause some crashes, they are rare, but if the game crashes, switch to single core mode for awhile!

We are releasing via torrent initially, please seed for as long as possible, we recommend uTorrent as a client! Direct download from the site will be available once initial flood has hit!

Ootake 0.80 Released

- "Swap I&II" was added to "Input" menu. (For "Lemmings" with the mouse)
- If "7" key (It is not ten keyboard) is pushed, "Swap SEL&RUN" ("SELECT" button is replaced with "RUN" button) is executed. Use it when you connect 3-button pad.
- When "Music CD player" built into "System Card" was played, the bug that had been occasionally freezed when all tune performance was completed was corrected. And, when "Ootake" was paused while performing music, the bug of which the error margin went out to the display at the elapsed time was corrected.

bsnes WIP Report

A new bsnes work in progress report has been posted today.

I rewrote a lot of the cartridge file processing code to support the Bandai Sufami Turbo. All thirteen games are playable, and all are dualable in any combination. There are a few technical limitations such as SRAM always mapping as 128kbit in all games and cheat files only loading from the first cartridge (ROM cheats being unreliable when you switch which slot a given game is plugged into anyway), however since all games are fully playable, and this technically has little to do with the SNES, I am very satisfied with the results. The technical limitations are mostly related to the abstraction of the bus controlling PCB-based memory mapping (the MMC obviously exists in the cartridge, whereas the memory mapper is the most logical location to decode addresses in an emulator), thusly expecting single linear blocks for ROM and RAM, and the Sufami Turbo requiring two separate ROMs and SRAM regions. While it's possible to get around this, I've decided the additional work and overcomplication of one of the most vital parts of emulation is not worth the effort for only thirteen games. Hopefully everyone will agree that my Sufami Turbo implementation is more than sufficient.

I also fixed a tiny glitch with IRQs affecting Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (E) (yes, that's right, I'm calling the European version Final Fantasy, take that Square), which may or may not have affected the last public release. I'm currently working on an IRQ fix that will correct both R-Type III and Robocop at the same time, but every fix I come up with breaks one of my test ROMs, fun.

Lastly, a fix for Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City, single writes to BGnVOFS registers appear to act differently than single writes to BGnHOFS registers. Check the ZSNES forum if you want to read my long-winded technical explanation of this. The maps now ... do whatever it is they do ... correctly.

Head on over to bsnes' WIP page to check out the screenshots and previous work in progress reports.

RockNES Developer Looking For Some Help

Fx3 Is looking for some help with the sound output driver for RockNES. Here is what Fx3 had to say about the problem he is having.

There's a problem in the sound output driver, which makes the emulation slow and choppy. I tried lots of different things to bypass it, but none of them were effective. This way, to make the things clear: it's NOT an emulation problem, neither unoptimized code, neither anything related with the emulation. The reason of a choppy emulation relies on Allegro sound code, the audiostream function. Well, it's open for your help if you're experienced with Allegro sound usage.

So if you have some experience with Allegro sound usage then head on over to the RockNES forums to lend a hand.

 misc: scanner diskimage routines rewrite
misc: profiler doesn't need a rescan when running in batchmode

sixtyforce 0.8.5 Released

A new version of the Nintendo 64 emulator for the Mac known as sixtyforce has been released. Here is what Gerrit posted for version 0.8.5.

sixtyforce 0.8.5 has been released. It is hands down, the best release in years.

While it is nowhere near perfect, compatibility is at its highest ever and sixtyforce has become the first (and only) Nintendo 64 emulator to dynamically recompile to both PowerPC and Intel.

This version includes lots of changes, but most importantly game freezing and autosaving are back and better than ever. This is also the first release that runs as well on Intel machines as it does on PowerPC. In fact, it runs better.

WIth the Intel conversion complete, the plan for future versions is to go back to the basics: higher compatibilty and better emulation.

Also if you want to help support this project and take full advantage of sixtyforce you will want to register your copy over at the official site.
