Gens Using & Configuration

Before you start trying to load a game make sure you visit the Directories section in Help to configure your directories and all other necessary things needed to play commercial games. (but do not ask us or the authors for these files)

(Loading A Rom)

Once you have everything set up it is time to load a game. Click on to FileOpen ROM, and you will see the Open Dialog. You can also get to the Open Rom dialog by just pressing Ctrl and O together on your Keyboard.

If it doesn't already open in your Rom folder then select where they are situated (shown above) and click on the file.

Once you are sure that is the Rom you want to play click the Open button and the game will load for you to play.

(Making a Game Save in Gens)

To make a save of an active game you have a few choices. You can make a quick save by clicking on FileQuick Save. You can also do this by clicking F5 on you keyboard. If you wish to make several quick saves of a current game, then you can change State Slot Positions by clicking on FileChange State and then a choice of 0-9. Or alternatively you can also click on F6 to change State Slot down and F7 for State Slot up.

To Save state as, click on FileSave state as. You can also do this by clicking Shift+ F5 on you keyboard.

The Load state dialog will open but don't be fooled it is actually a save dialog. Select where you would want it saved and then click the Save Button to return to the active game.
